Which routes are open
Status reflects the official position at the time of writing. Rules change often — follow each link and confirm before you act on it.
-
Federal Civil Service Commission recruitment
Verify firstFederal applications run through the Commission’s own portal, and cycles open and close rather than running continuously. Sources list more than one address for it, so navigate from the Commission’s official site rather than from a link in an advert.
-
NYSC — National Youth Service Corps
OpenCompulsory one-year service for eligible graduates, and for many employers a prerequisite. The orientation programme was redesigned in 2026 to run longer, with more emphasis on digital skills and entrepreneurship. Registration is through the NYSC portal.
-
NPower
Verify firstFederal social investment programme, administered through NASIMS. Batches open intermittently and the name is among the most impersonated in Nigerian recruitment. We could not reach the NASIMS portal when this page was last checked, so reach it from an official government channel rather than from a link in an advert, and treat any other “NPower portal” as fake.
What you need before applying
- NYSC discharge, exemption or exclusion certificate — many employers treat this as a hard filter.
- Your degree certificate or statement of result, plus WAEC/NECO results.
- A valid means of identification (NIN, international passport, driver’s licence or voter’s card).
Where to find the jobs
Go to these directly. Applying at the source beats applying through a reposting aggregator, and the official registers let you verify an employer before you commit anything.
-
Federal Civil Service Commission
Start here for federal roles. The Commission has publicly warned that it never charges for forms or appointments.
-
NYSC portal
Mobilisation, registration and certificate matters. Nothing else is official.
-
Nigeria government portal
Use it to reach ministry and agency sites directly, rather than trusting a link in a job advert.
-
Jobberman Nigeria
The largest private board. Free for jobseekers — employers pay, you never should.
What your graduates and entry-level CV must show
- Two pages. State your NYSC status explicitly — completed, serving, or exempt — near the top.
- Nigerian employers still expect class of degree; include it if it is second class upper or above.
- Quantify everything you can: accounts managed, sales closed, customers handled per day.
- Skip date of birth, marital status, state of origin and a photo unless the advert specifically asks.
Write it now. Open the customer service representative example in the builder and replace the details with your own. It saves in your browser — no account, nothing uploaded.
Graduates and entry-level in Nigeria — FAQ
How do I tell a fake job advert from a real one?
Real recruiters never ask for money for forms, screening, training or an appointment letter. Be suspicious of adverts that route you to a personal phone number, a generic email address, or a portal that is not on a government domain.
Can I work without completing NYSC?
Many private employers will hire you, but most federal roles and a lot of large corporates treat the certificate as mandatory. If you are exempt, say so and give the exemption reason.
Which pays better, federal or private sector?
Federal roles pay less at entry but offer stability and pension; banking, telecoms and oil and gas pay considerably more and hire harder. Applying to both is normal and sensible.
Do I need a different CV for each application?
You need the same CV with the summary and top few bullets re-pointed at the advert. Changing those two things takes ten minutes and matters far more than redesigning the layout.
